Lifescape and Chumash Reserve

This video shows the Lifescape, part of SBCC's campus and the classroom for the horticulture program. I highly recommend you check out the Lifescape's link, as it is a really awesome website!

I took this video as part of the series of videos I have been taking to show students the campus. I did this one a little differently, because the Lifescape is honestly really large, and hard to capture in one shot. I took different shots of the Lifescape, and compiled them together, and then added music and my audio description over it. I did this because a lot of people responded really well to the Dia de Los Muertos video, which is done similarly. Enjoy!

The Library

I thought it would be fun to share these videos of the library with you. The video with music was made by me as part of the Snapshot Day, an event to capture the essence of libraries around the country.  The other video was made by the library, and designed to help students know where the resources in the library are.

I really like our library because when I am trying to do homework etc. at home, a lot of times my roommates are loud, or I start wanting to clean my room etc. The library has tons of rooms to study in and outlets to power my laptop, a computer lab, and even coffee. I also love the view from the study tables by the front window! Ocean view from the library... yes!

College Fair Night

The Student's Coalition

I'm so happy with how this video turned out! All of the editing techniques I've been learning along the way of my internship have really been paying off. I love the girls from The Student's Coalition!  They're one out of many great clubs on campus, but I especially enjoy their enthusiasm for helping people.

Videos for Machinal

These videos were created to help promote Machinal, and to give people a behind the scenes look at the production to learn about the theater program. I filmed them during dress rehearsal, then put the shots together and edited into two complete pieces.

Working on the Machinal video

Today I am editing a video I came up with for the play called Machinal. Machinal is the story of a young woman in the 1920's who feels trapped by society. Everyone around her is like a machine, and she keeps doing what she thinks she is supposed to do and putting others needs before hers.

The play is extremely exciting, and I filmed dress rehearsal on Monday evening. I am putting together what I hope will be like a movie preview, except for a play. I am trying something new that I couldn't find a lot of information on, but I am going to try to make it so that people will definitely want to see the play. I have a lot of footage, and I think I will make a second clip about the theater intended not just about Machinal, but to show why our theater program is so cool.

Because there is so much footage, it takes a lot of time to import into IMovie. I use Imovie because its the simplest and it comes free on a mac. However, just because its free doesn't mean its not amazing software. All of my movies which I have done recently have been edited via IMovie, and it helps me add transitions, trim clips, add music. However, I still have to create the purpose of the story that I am telling.

Chinese Scholars Association Flying Kites I

On Wednesday I hung out with the Chinese Scholars Association and flew kites. They were celebrating the Double Ninth Festival, a traditional festival in China. The idea is that when the kites fly on that day, it releases bad luck. It was really fun flying my fish-shaped kite with them, and since there is always a good amount of wind on that hill, I look forward to keep practicing.

Getting into editing

I have been really evolving with my youtube project lately. Using IMovie on my new mac, I have been editing the videos, which gives me the ability to splice them and add great effects. This video was a challenge for me, because I had to approach students on campus that I had never talked to before. However, everyone was surprisingly friendly, and willing to give their opinions of the school. I love how the editing transitions came out. I am going to do it as a series, which is great because I loved the project.

This week has been pretty fantastic. I attended the Non-Profit Career Fair, and got two job leads from Telefund and Pathpoint. I have a job interview with Telefund this evening. I got a great video of all this, and am including it here:




I chose to start with this quote, because I feel like its very true. This week I have been making things happen. I did so many movies!  I am so proud of my new abilities to edit the movies using IMovie. I spent a lot of time and care on it, and I'm just happy people were so willing to work with me and be interviewed.

Career Services

Friday I worked with Kristin Frascella of the Career Services at SBCC to create a video outlining what they do. I also gave advertised on our facebook page and twitter that tomorrow is the Non-Profit Career Fair, which I hope to be able to capture on video. I am also going to be going there after I am done with work in order to look for a job for myself.

Community College Summit Video

This video has been submitted to the White House Community College Summit, which will be held on October5th, 2010.  The summit is being run by the Second Lady, Dr. Jill Biden. I helped to film the beginning part of the video featuring the Student Senate, and am also featured speaking in the video at 6:43.

Atty Garfinkel, Student Senate President of SBCC/What I'm Up to

Yesterday I got a chance to interview the student Senate President, Atty Garfinkel. I really like how the video came out. It was really fun working with her. I'm gearing up for Club Day, and working on best expressing my ideas for marketing student life there. On Tuesday I attended the Resume Workshop at the Career Center, which was really helpful for me. Now that I've been doing my resume for a few years, I have it down really well. My first resume was edited and had huge lines through it with a page of suggestions, the resume I got help with Tuesday had a few minor changes and was good to go. That makes me feel good about going out in the world on my job search. I'm not looking for a job to replace this job (which I LOVE), but my other part time job at Radioshack.


Today I am having lunch with Grayson, the VP of Phi Theta Kappa who is in the video of a previous post. I'm trying to meet new people, but I know that with my current work schedule its going to be a bit limited, but I can' t wait to attend at networking event such as Contact N' Coffee or Santa Barbara Young Professionals.

I'm happy with how this video interview came out. Hannah and Grayson are really nice and easy to work with. For this video, I chose to go out by the Overlook, where you can see the La Playa Stadium in the background. The video was done from beginning to end in one take. This is the La Playa Stadium, the football field here at SBCC. And I just got a tip that this also a great place to work out by running up and down the stairs in the bleachers!

New Project!

I am very excited to beginning a new project here. I am going to filming various faculty/staff members here at SBCC for a video series of interviews. I have already got some people who are interested in being filmed, and working on getting more. I love meeting people and talking to people, so that is pretty perfect. I need to brush up on my film skills so I can get the perfects shots. When I took my videos into the flipshare program to look for still images (the ones featured in the slideshow), it made my realize that a video is like a series of good photographs, so I am going to be working on stringing together those images that would photograph well.

The Buzz Shack

So yesterday I ventured down to the Buzz Shack to go review some coffee!  The coffee I had was absolutely delicious. I wanted to interview a student working there, and Spencer graciously volunteered. Unfortunately, I am still learning how to use the camera, and didn't get his head in the shot very well. Definitely something I now know to focus on in the future, but since I'm learning through trial and error it's just a part of the learning process. So back to the coffee- it was delicious. Out of all coffee shop drinks, I most like chai. Chai is a black tea that's made with milk and everywhere makes it differently. Sometimes it's awesome and sometimes it's not. There's was very good, and I really appreciate them taking their time to help me out. I will be sure to try some more of their drinks, perhaps white mocha next?

In this post, I recruited my boyfriend, Kyle, to come help me film it so that you could see me in the video. I think it worked out well.

Video of the campus

So I have spent the last few days running around the campus with the flip camera I am borrowing from the Cyber Center. They are letting me use it for two months, which is awesome. In fact, any student can go in and check it out like they would a library book for two weeks to film for school etc. Doing the video has been challenging because I have never really shot video before. It took me about 8 times to get my welcome video down! That's okay though, because it is a learning process. I took some videos around the campus, uploaded them and reviewed them with Alex who gave me good feedback. Now I feel like the next set of videos are going to be better quality. I am also working hard on promoting the on campus clubs, as they really make up the life of the campus. Yesterday I talked to the Marine Tech director about doing an informal interview. Their website is already amazing, but hopefully I can make a good contribution to promoting them. Plus, they are pretty much the most interesting program to watch.

Also, of note, today is my birthday :D
