So today SBCC is hosting a job fair, and here's who will be there:
This is a really good opportunity for students, and perhaps myself, to check out the job market.

Baseball Field & Tennis Courts
I thought you guys might like to see how one of my video gets planned out, start to finish. At least one of you out there must be a an aspiring marketer, director or producer!
So first, I decide what I want to shoot. This video is intended to be part of the campus video series, which are very simple shots taken around campus. I tried going to this area at a random time, but no one was there. So I found out when the baseball games were, and put that into my calendar. On that day, I went over to the area and got many different shots. I returned to the computer and imported the footage into Imovie. Then I went through the clips and chose which ones I really liked. I trimmed them, and stabilized them to make them have smoother pans. I put them in order in Imovie, and wrote my script. Then I recorded my voiceover, which I have found is easier than doing live when I am trying to control the camera. Finally, I uploaded added the captions in Youtube. And voila!

Classes I'm thinking about
So currently I am thinking about two programs. One is the Certificate in Marketing, and another is a certificate in Entrepreneurship from Scheinfeld Center. While there also courses which do not require credits, I am more interested in the for credit course. The Certificate in Marketing requires 24 units (students usually take 12-15 units a semester for full time), and the Certificate in Entrepreneurship has 17. This is totally doable in a year and a summer. Melissa Moreno, the Director, said they will be creating an Associates Degree as well, so I will want to find out more about that too. I am really interested in learning business skills and being able to start a business, and I am also interested in marketing (although maybe a little bit less). I would like to start an app with one of my friends who does computer programming for the iphone. The cool part about the program is that you apply it to any business, use your actual business in the class, and change it if you need to while going through the program. The skills seem like excellent life skills, explaining how to legally create a business, the finances of it, and how to create a Business Plan. They also create the New Venture Contest which I've mentioned in previous posts, but it's a contest between students with a business idea, that gives them actual money to begin.

Continual Learning
I just wanted to take a moment and talk about the process of continual learning. I have a pretty clear direction of where I want to go. I want to pursue marketing, and then weave back into education/non-profits either by marketing for a non-profit, opening a school, or something like that. My boyfriend mentioned his fear about picking one major when he has so many different dreams. So here's my advice, and I got it from a lot of sources (couldn't tell you exactly where): It doesn't matter if you pick a major and change your mind, because that time wasn't wasted. You will find some way to use it. You may not know you are using it, but somewhere along the line that part of you was enhanced, and you can never take that away. So for anyone scared to go to college because they don't know what they want to do, don't be afraid to explore. Every class you take will just add to your repertoire.

My day
This week I have been so busy! This morning I had work, and then soccer & dance. I enjoyed them both so much! In dance we made up some improv moves, and I got to work with another student to combine our two "dance phrases" to create a "dance sentance". This is just a fancy dance way of saying we added our moves together into a sequence. Then afterwards I had soccer class, and that was fun. We had two teams today, whereas we normally divide up into 4 small teams. I played right mid, and I made a few awesome passes. After my lunch break I went to my personal awareness class, where we talked about overcoming fear. We watched a movie about a man with no limbs. If you are feeling bad or complaining, watching his inspirational video makes you feel like, what was I complaining about! Also, I really liked the quote that my teacher passed out today, and I have put it up on my wall:
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the decision that something is more important than fear.
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the decision that something is more important than fear.

A lot to think about
Right now, my brain is very very busy. I have so much on my mind! This weekend I went to a networking event which my professor, Barbara Balderman in the graphic design department informed me about. The event was for the AIGA, "the professional association for design", which was a chance to get my portfolio reviewed. If any of you are going into the arts or anything which requires a portfolio, I cannot emphasize enough how helpful this portfolio was for me, and could be for you. I have never been to an event with so many interesting people, and role models within the arts and marketing. I'm still shocked about how much I got out of it. Since then I have been wracking my brain to try to focus on how I want my career path to turn out.
