Today I went to a meeting of Project Hope, which is a peer health education group. I have mentioned them in a previous blog about relaxing. They focus on issues like de-stressing, eating right, awareness and prevention of alcohol and smoking issues, and more. Today they were discussing smoking on campus. It was fun watch Eve, who interns for them, help lead the meeting. Eve went on the trip to Israel with me, and is involved with Hillel as well. I thought that their idea about encouraging students to write down goals about smoking, whether it's to not smoke when they're stressed or for a certain amount of days was a cool idea.
Writing down a goal is really important, and it can make it become more of a clear promise in your head. This is something we were discussing in my leadership class next week- going from your values, to a goal, and then creating action steps to get you to your goal. I think that strategy makes is possible for people to achieve any reasonable goal, no matter how intimidating it might feel. (Speaking of goals, it's so cool to go back to a previous blog where I was talking about what classes I wanted to take last semester and now be there, doing it!).
When I was in the time management workshop last week, they were discussing writing your study time in your planner. Now that I am kind of used to it, it's not really an issue for me, but when I was at SDSU I used to literally schedule EVERYTHING- workout time, study time, and time to just relax. I would break down homework into smaller parts and schedule that. Now that I am thinking about it, maybe that's a good habit to get back into...
